The annual Epic Games winter sale for December 2023 has begun. This is a fantastic yearly event for gamers to take advantage of mega discounts for dozens of amazing PC games such as Alan Wake 2 this year. However, what’s even better than the discounts is the free Epic Games mystery games. The next free mystery game unlocks on December 20th, and Epic has revealed there will be 17 days of Christmas overall.
In addition to Epic Games’ promotion, know that there is also the GOG Winter Sale happening right now with its own bevy of discounts. And, in just a couple of weeks’ time, there is the start date for the Steam Winter Sale 2023. All of these promotions allow you to bag gems at massively discounted prices. As for in-game events, Epic Games themselves are conducting the Fortnite Winterfest 2023 full of rewards under the Christmas tree.
All of the above is exciting, but it’s the 17 days of free mystery games people anticipate the most. It often includes both AAA and indie titles, and it will become a daily occurrence next week.
Next Epic Games free mystery game comes out on December 20th
The next Epic Games free mystery game comes out on December 20th. Unlike previous years, the clues this year are harder to unravel. While in 2022 the clue was a very obvious symbol from the mystery game, this year the packaging is near impossible to decipher.
We will update this article if any leaks or strong predictions emerge. Right now, the packaging doesn’t really scream anything. Names could be thrown out based on the red and orange color scheme, but it doesn’t appear there are any symbols from any particular game. It’s possible this year the packaging is just generic and Epic isn’t offering any clues to prevent spoilers.
The current giveaway right now is Destiny 2 The Legacy Collection. This is available to claim until 8 AM PT/ 11 AM ET/ 4 PM GMT on December 20th. It includes the following content:
- Destiny 2 The Witch Queen
- Destiny 2 Shadowkeep
- Destiny 2 Beyond The Light

Leaker billbil_kun initially revealed that it is 17 free games this year rather than the traditional 12 and 15, but now it is confirmed on the the Epic Games website with an end date of January 10th. It’s a shame the next freebie doesn’t come out on December 14th, but it will become daily again from December 20th.
